Halloween

The family got together at Viv's for Halloween and watched The Gremlins. Of course, costumes were required so I threw something together that I already owned most of. Viv was the Statue of Liberty, Gordon was emo, Natalie and Bryce were each other, Matt was a chef, and Becky, David, and Daniel were Olive Oyl, Popeye, and Sweet Pea.

Parent's Weekend - Part 3

Saturday was the big day for parent's weekend - the BYU vs. CSU game!!

There was a special tailgate party for the parents before the game with food and a plinko board (me and mom each won a Y sweat towel). The BYU a Capella group Vocal Point sang a few songs for us, they were really good.

After the tailgate, mom and I went to the game and our seats were right next to all the CSU fans, which made it all the more exciting when we won!! By about half time mom understood the basics and knew enough of what was happening to yell at Max Hall when he threw an interception... I was very impressed. Luckily we scored enough touchdowns that I know the fight song now, and mom was reading it off the back of my parent's weekend shirt

Parent's Weekend - Part 2

Friday night mom and I went to the BYU Family Blue-au. The marching band came in and played a few songs and the fight song, Cecil O. Samuelson spoke, Cosmo made an appearance, and the Living Legends group did some Luau dancing for us, and taught us the war chant.

It was a fun night, but now I want to try out for Drumline and go back to Hawaii.... which I plan to do (Drumline, not Hawaii).

Parent's Weekend - Part 1

Parent's Weekend runs from Fri-Sun and is a time for parents to visit classes, go to the BYU game, tour around campus, and see what their kid is getting up to. Mom came out and we decided to take it easy since we've both seen BYU plenty of times. Thursday she came with me to my guitar class, but we had a sub so only stayed for 20 minutes.

Friday morning mom took my roommates and Hope, an old friend from Maryland who lives in Texas now, out to lunch at Tucano's! We all pigged out, and my roommates even tried chicken hearts... but I chickened out (pun!)

Tucano's was delicious as always and we finished off with huge desserts

BYU True Blue

Each year BYU has a "True Blue" day to get students excited for the year and to kickoff the football season. There were Ultimate Frisbee games, 2 huge slip 'n slides, and blue jello-eating contests. Everything is blue, including the people, because the slip 'n slides aren't run by water, but bright blue foam. There's also a big field at the bottom of the hill with people hosing each other down with blue foam and sliding around in the foot deep foam on the ground.

The Stairs

Every Monday and Wednesday I have one class in the gym building. After I run around for an hour and a half, I need to get back to my scooter to go home. These are the stairs I get to walk up each time.

I'm still on the hunt for parking at the bottom of the hill.

BYU vs. FSU

BYU had their first home game yesterday!

Madison bought a ticket at the last minute and we decided to go all out, so we went to the bookstore and bought t-shirts (20% off navy!) and some face paint and blue hair spray. We went to the tailgate party before the game and picked up some SWAG (Stuff We All Get).

Our seats were up in the nosebleeds, section VV, but Madison's friend was sitting in W so we joined him...12 rows directly behind the end zone!

We played Florida State, which I'd heard would be an easy win... but we struggled. FSU slaughtered us, 54-28, our first home loss since 2005. But the Y fans were still cheering, and the student section was as fun as I'd hoped. Hopefully we'll play better this week against Colorado State!
